Platonic Nature is a series originating in the mountains of Boyacá, Colombia exploring the perceived isolation of these landscapes. The series challenges this notion by collecting specimens and transforming them into forms that reflect on the relationship between natural and manufactured systems.
By bringing together the organic patterns found in natural fractals, such as lichen, and the mathematical “perfection” of the five Platonic solids, the only regular polyhedrons, the project examines how opposites coexist and inform one another, creating hybrids that contain elements of both.
Each solid was crafted from organic materials collected from endemic species and photographed to appear artificial despite their natural origin. By reversing expected associations between material and form, the work proposes that organic and artificial systems are structurally interconnected rather than diametrically opposed.
