About

David Arturo Hernández Mora is a Colombian artist based in the Netherlands. Their practice spans photography, ceramics, textiles, sound and interactive installations.

Their work focuses on making immaterial concepts and boundaries tangible, creating spaces that engage emotionally charged subjects through empathy, care and personal narratives, inviting self-reflection. By bringing uncomfortable or taboo subjects to the forefront through vulnerable and empathetic approaches, the practice reflects on contemporary conditions shaped by confirmation bias and normative ideals of happiness and perfection.

Drawing on art direction, social design, psychology and sociology, as well as their lived experience growing up in Latin America, the work is informed by the concept of “sentipensante”, a Latin American framework in which reason and emotion are understood as complementary rather than opposing forces. Within this approach, rationality is not separated from emotional experience.

Working through ethnographic, research-based and participatory methods, their practice develops interview-based processes that invite participants to share personal stories, which are translated into installations and material forms. These works create slow, affective experiences that highlight vulnerability and emotional presence.

Currently, their research focuses on the intercultural nature of emotions and the role of language in shaping discourse around grief, suicide, empathy and migration within multicultural contexts.

They have exhibited work at Centro de Cultura de Cali (Cali, Colombia), participated in Noches de San Felipe (Bogotá, Colombia) and recently presented two works at Dutch Design Week 2025. One at the DAE Graduation Show  and another in the exhibition Essential Interest to Dutch Culture.
