A photographic series representing flowers using the artist’s hands. The work is inspired by the relationship between queerness and flowers in Colombian slang, ballroom culture, and the local flora of the artist’s home country.
Expressions such as “pártete flor”, “floripondio” (homophobic slurs directed at effeminate boys in Colombia), were often accompanied by a wrist-breaking gesture used to mock femininity. The series reclaims this imagery, transforming gestures once used to belittle, into the creation of flowers that evoke memory, identity and home.
The work also pays homage to hand performance within ballroom culture, where gesture becomes an unapologetic celebration of queerness and self-expression. Additional formal choices, such as detailed nail work and the depilation of the arms, emphasize androgyny, blurring gender cues and allowing viewers to speculate on whose hands they are observing.
